Single Kitten Syndrome, Bonded Kittens, and Supportive Kittens

Single kitten syndrome is the idea that young kittens, when raised with other young kittens and cats and then adopted into a home by themselves, can become aggressive, anxious, stressed, and even develop behavioral issues like inappropriate chewing/scratching and inappropriately using the litterbox.

Young kittens learn appropriate social behaviors from each other! Even if you never ever leave your house, as much social interaction as you can give your kitten, there are still social needs they require from other cats. When kittens are growing up together, they learn to play with each other and learn that biting and scratching hurts! Without an appropriate playmate, a cute kitten 'playing' with your hand or arm can become... not so cute real fast.

Bonded Kittens are kittens that have developed a deep bond during their time together with us -- they are frequently found playing, napping, eating, and grooming together. While an individual kitten may bounce back from being separated from their chosen friend, these kittens really thrive when they are kept together, and we make every effort to keep bonded pairs together.

Supportive Kittens are kittens that are a bonded pair, or a sibling pair, where one of the kittens is a special-needs kitten/cat. These can be varying kinds of disabilities, although most often these are kittens with physical disabilities, and having a familiar companion makes their transition easier. In many cases the supportive kitten is a necessity, as things like grooming, and individual play, will be hard for these disadvantaged kittens.

While there are exceptions, and while we always evaluate on an individual kitten/cat's needs and temperment, we are focused on ensuring they will thrive in their new environment. This means that, especially in the cases of kittens and disabled kittens/cats, we are more likely to require them to be adopted in pairs if there are no other kittens/young cats in the home.

We only adopt to Connecticut residents 21 and older.
Adoption fees are $100 per cat/kitten
You will receive an automated acknowledgement of receipt of your application. This is not an approval for adoption.
An adoption coordinator will contact you after reviewing your application.
Please be patient while waiting for an email response, as we are 100% volunteer-staffed.
Cats are placed in a best-fit home, not on a first-come-first-served basis.
Your preferred cat may not be available at the time of application approval.
Kittens are adopted out in pairs, unless you have a young cat in the home.
